Bad URLs in your HTML code prevented the banner from loading successfully.

You can get this error if you published a banner on your disk and then uploaded the banner files manually, or with your web site editor. Chances are that either your HTML code or banner file (bz.js) still make reference to content that is on your disk.

Several years later, I finally track down the code mod and knuckle down to change the code!

This specific code hasn’t changed since its design in 2005.  So, many years later, my eyes (and mind) finally found the routine in all the code on my site to add to a user’s account upgrade.  This adds some user info to another set of tables which I had to, somewhat, handle manually!  Man, this is so rewarding, especially if you are like me, a non-programmer!

Now, let’s just wait to ensure that this change doesn’t break something else!  Ug!

For me, a needle in a haystack!

Posted in Computing on the 'Net, ReunionHall.org on December 30th, 2007

Earlier this month of December, I broke the code which updates a user’s profile on one of my sites, Reunion Hall.  Of course, I didn’t know I broke the PHP code when I modified it because a few rows in the db wasn’t used any longer.  Ahh, the script wasn’t modified to reflect the missing rows…well, they weren’t missing.  I modified another piece of the code in the ‘add user’ script.   It has taken me, part time, several weeks to find the ‘errors of my ways’, a phrase my teacher would say. So what’s so big about this?  I’m not a programmer.  I can’t write code from scratch!  And, I can now mess with this stuff (php, mysql, etc.) because of open-source!  This saves me yearly fees of proprietary software such as cgis, databases, hardware, etc. Anyways, I found the problem, and I did it before the end of this year!  I have learned and hope I remember, next time.
