I recently was asked if an iMac can connect an external monitor…

“Regarding an additional display for your iMac, there is, on the back, the DisplayPort for attaching another display. You should have received with the iMac, or your Macbook, a DisplayPort adapter. That adapter will let you connect a VGA (video graphics adapter; 15-pin d-connector) to a monitor. Once you connect the monitor, go into the display prefs (Under the Apple logo in the menubar, select System Preferences, and then click on Display in the upper half of the prefs window and setup the new monitor by dragging it to the side it physically on.)

Also, what I recently learned regarding buying a new monitor is to look for one that has an adjustable height to match the position of my primary monitor. The other is to also try to match the screen height…your goal is to extend your desktop space, and if the new monitor isn’t the same height, when you move application windows between windows, they may be too large for the smaller monitor…it’s minor, maybe. I notice it on my setup every day I use it.”

On the Mac, if you don’t subscribe to .Mac, you can still use the iChat app with other .Mac and –>AIM (AOL Instant Messenger). 1) Create a free account on AIM (http://dashboard.aim.com/aim); 2) Launch iChat; 3) change the account type to “AIM” and enter your login info. Now, with a webcam (or attach your video camera) and a AIM/.Mac buddy, you are ready to chat with one and more people face-to-face! Two out of three siblings have Macs…the other can’t participate…maybe I should buy him a Mac!

While watching Tiger make a comeback to champion status, PhpMySQLAutoBackup by Dave Walker ( http://www.DWalker.co.uk ) a no-go for me.  The setup is straight-forward, but when I run the script, nothing happens, even after I set the error_reporting to E_All!

So, I move on to another open-source script.  So it goes!
