What does a cosmetology school just outside Dallas need with a 5W adjustable cell phone jammer? Blissful quiet in the classrooms, apparently. But the school’s decision to install the jamming unit (it had three more that weren’t yet set up) in 2009 was one link in a chain that last week led the Federal Communications Commission to propose a $25,000 fine against the company hawking the products.

London-based Phonejammer.com has actually been in the FCC’s view for some time. Back in 2008, the agency issued a citation to Phonejammer (PDF) for “marketing in the United States radio frequency devices designed to intentionally interfere with cellular and PCS frequencies.”

Simulate Moon’s shine

Posted in What? on April 27th, 2010
Do you like seeing the light from a full moon streaming into the room at night? I simulate it by using cheap solar powered LED lights by hanging them high to get sunlight to charge the battery, and to simulate the high moon. I bought my lights (you only need on) at OSH. It’s a yard light that has three pieces…I discarded two, the stake that goes into the ground and the fluted plastic that models the light onto the ground. I kept the top part, the cell and LED unit. (The pair of lights towards the lower third section are two lights just to through low light into the living room. I have put on in front of the other so one will be on shining light onto the other light sensor to keep it off until the rear one shuts off…this extends the light into the night.
