BRIM Project

Posted in Computing on the 'Net, Web Scripts on February 24th, 2007

Brim-Project (http://www.brim-project.org/) is a self-described as…

“Brim (formerly known as Booby) is an application suite that allows you to manage your personal items online.

Brim is written in PHP and is an opensource Webbased Information Manager, with support for bookmarks, calendar, contacts, notes, news, passwords and tasks and more.”

The version I was trying was v1.3 when I really thought I was downloading 2.x beta.

After installing it, it worked very well. And, the next day, I load it up in Safari, and I find I can’t get the bookmarks to display. I try Firefox (both using Mac OS X), and it responds the same. I have little patience for these problems. It’s coming off the server and I’ll try SideBar, if I can remember where it is!

SleekOffice(tm)

Posted in Computing on the 'Net, Web Scripts on February 23rd, 2007

I tried to configure this software for two nights, and I threw in the towel.

From their website at http://www.sleekoffice.com/:
“SleekOffice is a web-based application that allows individuals and workgroups to increase their productivity. Manage your contacts, calendar items, files, projects and more from one interface! Get more done in less time!SleekOffice is a web-based application that allows individuals and workgroups to increase their productivity. Manage your contacts, calendar items, files, projects and more from one interface! Get more done in less time!”

I’d like to tell you more, but the installation was going great (it doesn’t like the Safari web browser; tabbing and backspacing doesn’t work! I tried with Firefox v2 and tabbing works, but the installer still has the problem…) until I got to the signup.php page. When I’d enter my account info and clicked on the “submit” button, the script went to the “.net” site rather stay on my “.com” domain name! The script is encoded so you can’t alter anything like that…hands tied.

I gave up, but you should try if you are interested. If it doesn’t work, then move on, like I am.

I was using Virtual PDF Printer, but my Visio diagram text were all squished together.  I quickly went out and googled “pdf creator freeware” and quickly found PDFCreator (http://www.pdfforge.org/products/pdfcreator/).

It easily installed on my work’s XP computer, and the output was just as wanted…TERRIFIC!  Five Stars!

Lulz Space Textr

Posted in Computing on the 'Net, Web Scripts on February 11th, 2007

This is very simple, fully functional, SMS web form! It supports a majority of the major cellular carriers… Alltel, Boost, Cingular, Nextel, T-Mobile USA, Verizon Wireless, and Virgin Mobile USA. When I say, ’simple’, I mean it. All these carriers provide e-mail addresses which follow a basic formatting of the e-mail address to the cell phone. No special gateway is used, so the script is easily customized. Be sure that you catch the misspellings!
